In theme parks, every detail helps create a memorable experience. Behind the sets, attractions and immersive environments, however, lies continuous maintenance and infrastructure enhancement. This is the case at Movieland – The Hollywood Park, the renowned theme park in Lazise, on the shores of Lake Garda (Verona, Italy), where a major roof refurbishment project was recently completed on the commercial area.
A theme park in constant evolution
Theme parks can be considered permanent construction sites: attractions, service areas and visitor facilities require ongoing maintenance to ensure safety, comfort and visual appeal. In this context, roofing systems play a strategic role, protecting the structures and extending the service life of the buildings.
The project at Movieland involved the refurbishment of an existing roof and was carried out across three distinct areas, each requiring dedicated technical solutions to meet specific performance requirements.
The central roof span: torch-free installation for maximum safety
The central roof span was waterproofed using AUTOTAK Mineral 4 kg/m², a white-finished self-adhesive membrane featuring a specially formulated compound that enables installation without the use of an open flame.
This technology ensures a fast and safe application process. Once the release film on the underside is removed, the membrane is simply rolled onto the prepared substrate. Side laps are formed by removing the release film from the upper selvedge and mechanically fastening the membrane with large-headed nails spaced at 25 cm intervals, while end laps are sealed using COPERGLUE JOINT bituminous adhesive.
To ensure maximum adhesion to the existing substrate, the surface was first treated with PRIMER TAK, a fast-drying elastomeric bituminous primer based on pure solvents, specifically developed for the installation of self-adhesive membranes.
The combination of these products delivered a high-performance waterproofing system, restoring the roof's functionality while ensuring outstanding quality and long-term reliability.
Drainage channel and perimeter wall: versatility and reliability with MFT PLUS TEX
The second phase of the project focused on the drainage channel and perimeter wall, two particularly demanding areas constantly exposed to rainwater runoff.
These sections were waterproofed using MFT PLUS 4 mm TEX membrane, applied over a substrate previously treated with PRIMER SP.
MFT Multi-Flex-Technology is one of the system's key strengths, combining the advantages of APP and SBS membranes into a single product. The result is a highly versatile waterproofing solution that offers ease of installation together with excellent long-term performance.
Thanks to its formulation based on bitumen and pure solvents, PRIMER SP provides rapid drying, excellent substrate penetration and outstanding adhesion without leaving a sticky surface residue.
Protection and solar reflectance with COPER SOLAR FIBER FR
To complete the project, the building's perimeter parapet wall was coated with COPER SOLAR FIBER FR, a water-based, fibre-reinforced elastomeric liquid waterproofing membrane with self-extinguishing properties and a highly reflective white finish.
Easy to apply by brush or roller, the product forms a seamless waterproofing membrane that enhances water protection while contributing to improved thermal comfort thanks to its high solar reflectance. It also provides an attractive aesthetic finish, making it particularly suitable for buildings designed to accommodate large numbers of visitors during the summer season.
A project designed for long-term performance
The Movieland project demonstrates how infrastructure maintenance is essential even within the world of theme parks. Behind the excitement and spectacular attractions lies an ongoing commitment to technical upgrading and maintenance, ensuring functionality, safety and long-term durability.
By selecting dedicated waterproofing solutions for each section of the roof, the project successfully restored and protected the structure, preserving its performance and extending its service life.
FOCUS ON THE COPERNIT PRODUCTS USED
PRIMER TAK – Fast-drying elastomeric bituminous primer based on pure solvents, specifically developed for the installation of self-adhesive membranes.
AUTOTAK MINERAL 4 KG/M² – AUTOTAK is a range of waterproofing membranes manufactured from an elastomeric compound obtained by modifying distilled bitumen with SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) polymers. The underside, designed to bond to the substrate, is coated with a special self-adhesive compound, allowing installation without the use of an open flame.
COPERGLUE JOINT – Solvent-based bituminous adhesive for the cold bonding of overlaps in bitumen-polymer waterproofing membranes.
PRIMER SP – Fast-drying bituminous primer based on pure solvents, toluene-free.
MFT PLUS 4 MM – MFT PLUS is a range of innovative multilayer waterproofing membranes manufactured using MFT Multi-Flex-Technology, which combines the benefits of APP membranes with those of SBS membranes in a single product.
COPER SOLAR FIBER FR – Water-based, fibre-reinforced elastomeric liquid waterproofing membrane with self-extinguishing properties, featuring a highly reflective white finish for enhanced solar reflectance and thermal insulation.
